Lost Wax Jewelry Carving

An introduction to lost-wax carving. Leave with a hand-carved wax model that gets cast into a metal ring or pendant and shipped to you 2–3 weeks later.

3 hours$225 per person

What you'll make

A hand-carved ring or pendant, worked in jeweler's wax in class and returned to you cast in the metal of your choice (bronze, sterling silver, or gold) within two to three weeks.

What you'll learn

  • ·How to size accurately before you commit a single cut.
  • ·The grip and pressure wax carving requires: lighter and more deliberate than other carving.
  • ·Rough carving to establish your form, then detail work to give it character.
  • ·What makes a wax model castable, and what doesn't survive the foundry.

What's included

  • A jeweler's wax blank in your chosen ring or pendant size
  • A full jeweler's carving tool set, files, gravers, and wax pens
  • Ring sizers and a mandrel to confirm your exact size before carving begins
